Is this a good or bad weekend for a garage sale?
Stinky Feet asked:
We really need to have a garage sale and this seems to be the only weekend my husband has available. What are your thoughts on a garage sale on Labor Day Weekend?

Also please help me on pricing items. Clothes, electronics, etc. I really have no clue. Thanks!

First of the month always seems to be good weekends..As far as pricing things don't go to high. I wouldn't price anything over 5 dollars. In times past that I have had sales ppl with talk with you if it's something that they want and they think that it's to high. Be sure to put out signs and if you have a local paper (and if it's not to late) run a one day add before the sale. That might help. Good Luck!

my first thought is a holiday weekend isn't good, but it probably will be excellent because it is the first of the month, and lots of people will be home and if they can't afford to go to the lake, then they will go garage selling.

Actually it is a good weekend for a garage sale. Even when my husband I go camping on summer holidays, we always have time for a good yard sale. We actually had a yard sale over the 4th of July weekend and got alot of visitors and made enough money to make it worth our while. You want to keep your prices low. Just look at the item and decide what you would be willing to pay for it at a yard sale. You can usually get anywhere from 50 cents to around $15 for items of clothes depending on their condition. Electronics vary. I couldn't even get $5 for a perfectly good stereo system with the speakers. But it always just depends on who comes looking. I've had 2 yard sales this season and some things that no one showed interest in the first sale were very popular at the second sale. Just remember to price a little higher than what you actually want for the item since everyone likes to talk you down on your price so they feel like they got a good deal. You can always go down but can't go up. Also if you have a higher priced item and someone comes along early in the morning and tries to talk you down on price, try and hold out for the day. Dealers usually come out early to get the best deals. You can probably get your asking price from an individual later in the day. I had a silverware set that a dealer tried to talk me down at my first sale. I knew what it was worth and held onto it. I sold it at my second sale for $50.00. So you can have higher priced items at your sale but make sure you have them listed at a slightly higher bargain price. Good luck!

Around here where I am from, the best weekend is right on the first or third of the month, because people here get social security checks and goverment checks .also, when there is sunshine.
